Arriva wins tenders for operation in two Czech networks
The operator won over RegioJet and České dráhy respectively in tenders for two lines.
In recent tenders for the operation of regional trains in the Plzeňsko network in the Plzeň Region and the Jih network in the South Moravian Region, Arriva vlaky won over RegioJet and České dráhy respectively. The company will sign a 10-year contract with the South Moravian Region and a 15-year contract for the Plzeňsko network.
Arriva won the competition to operate trains in the South Moravian Region. From December 2024 it will take over operation of the Břeclav – Znojmo line and other regional lines. It will be a direct award which was preceded by a comparison of offers from several operators. The contract is for 1.4 million kilometers per year. České dráhy also submitted a bid, but their offer included new units and was, therefore, more expensive.
The operation will cover the S8 Břeclav – Znojmo line and other regional lines. The service will start with the 2024/2025 timetable and end with the 2033/2034 timetable. The operator is planning to use 13 low-floor double-car units, possibly Siemens Desiro, Alstom Lint, or Stadler GTW.
Arriva vlaky won an open tender for the operation of electric trains on the P1 South line: Horažďovice – Plzeň – Pňovany. In the tender, the company beat RegioJet and České dráhy, which currently operate the line, by offering the lowest price. Arriva will receive a 15-year contract that will start in December 2023. As follows from the contract, the service is in the 10.65–15.98 million train-kilometer range for the duration.
Under the terms of the tender, nine class 650 RegioPanter units, which České dráhy has been operating on the P1 South line since 2018, will be transferred to Arriva. ČD paid over EUR 42 million for the nine new units, and 85% of the cost was covered by subsidies. Arriva will buy the units for their residual value without subsidy. The units are painted in the Plzeň Region colors, and they are not ETCS-equipped.
