Brno changes train operator to Vienna Airport, Gepard Express to run from June
The timetable will change, with trains arriving at Schwechat before the early morning departures.
Gepard Express will be the new train operator between Brno and Vienna International Airport. It will replace RegioJet, which has been operating some of the trains for Brno since December 2022 and whose contract expires on June 10.
Brno, which co-sponsors the trains, promises better timetables. Gepard Express will be contracted until December 2025, according to a city council decision. This is the result of preliminary market consultations, in which Gepard Express submitted a better offer than RegioJet. There were no other applicants.
Brno will pay EUR 590 thousand to the new carrier this year and EUR 1.2 million next year. This is the first time that Gepard Express has entered the segment of PSO (public service obligation) transport on behalf of local governments. RegioJet will receive EUR 403 thousand from the city for the first six months of its operation; it did not operate daily until February.
The RegioJet service currently leaves Brno at 3:40 a.m. The new service will offer more convenient departure times for passengers. It will leave Brno for Vienna at 2:15 a.m., making it possible to arrive at the airport for the morning peak travel period, and leave Vienna for Brno at 11:10 p.m. after the evening peak travel period. The train travel time will be shortened by 35 minutes to 1 hour and 35 minutes.
RegioJet has announced that it will discontinue its train service to the airport after June 10. At the same time, bus connections between Brno and Vienna International Airport will be supplemented by two services – a morning service departing from Brno at 2:15 a.m. and an evening service arriving at Brno at 11:45 p.m.
New train service to Vienna Int’l Airport:
Departure Brno Main Station 2:15 a.m. – Arrival Vienna Airport 3:50 a.m.
Departure Vienna Airport 11:10 p.m. – Arrival Brno Main Station 0:45 p.m.
