CZ LOKO shows first dual locomotive in production

Mercitalia of Italy has ordered two locomotives so far.
CZ LOKO, a Czech railway vehicle manufacturer, has made significant progress with the production of its first dual locomotive. The locomotive will combine electric and diesel propulsion. The DualShunter 2000 will be ready in early 2023, the manufacturer said at the VUZ conference in Bratislava.
The first order is for Mercitalia, an Italian freight carrier wholly owned by the Italian state railways. It includes two locomotives with an option for two more; it is for 2023 and 2024.
The DualShunter 2000 will be marketed for operation on electrified lines (3kV DC, 15 kV AC, 25 kV AC) and with a CAT SM 32 (1 100 kW) diesel engine and battery. This will make operation on main electrified lines as well as on sidings and secondary lines without electrification possible, eliminating the need for two locomotives or operating diesel locomotives on electrified lines. The complete specification for the DualShunter 2000 is available on the manufacturer’s website.
