CZ LOKO to contract 20 EffiShunter 1000M in Slovakia

The modernisation of Class 742 locomotives into a nearly new traction vehicle is one of CZ LOKO's most successful projects
CZ LOKO, a Czech manufacturer of railway equipment, has won another large contract for the conversion of class 742 locomotives to more modern machines. It is to modernize up to twenty locomotives for the Slovak state freight carrier ZSSK Cargo.
Two independent sources confirmed CZ LOKO’s victory to CEETransport.com; the contract has not yet been signed. Neither CZ LOKO nor ZSSK Cargo responded to inquiries. The tender documentation foresees the delivery of four ETCS-equipped machines and sixteen without ETCS. According to the terms of the tender, it should be a modification to class 742.7 EffiShunter 1000M.
The modernisation of 742 locomotives into a nearly new traction vehicle is one of CZ LOKO’s most successful projects. After modernization, the locomotive is class 742.71X. CKD Praha produced the class 742 locomotives between 1977 and 1986. The comprehensive modernization will create a practically new vehicle.
CZ LOKO has already succeeded with the same project for the freight carrier CD Cargo in 2018, when a contract to modernize 50 class 742 locomotives was concluded. Other units are owned by CER Cargo and Rail Cargo Carrier, and the contract was also signed by ODOS from Ostrava. Czech Railways ordered these locomotives this year.
