Modernization will be carried out in cooperation with TZV Gredelj of the Budamar group.

CZ LOKO has won its biggest contract in Slovakia so far. It will upgrade 20 class 742 locomotives to EffiShunter 1000M for the state freight carrier ZSSK Cargo.

The Slovak Central register of contract lists the contract as signed yesterday. Four ETCS-equipped machines and 16 non-ETCS machines will be delivered, CZ LOKO plans to cooperate with Croatian TZV Gredelj on the project. As follows from the terms of the tender, this should be a similar transformation of locomotives from CKD Praha, as CZ LOKO performed for CD Cargo. The contract value has not been disclosed.

The machines, built between 1977 and 1986, need to be modernized because of their unsustainability. This is a complete modernization, where only the main frame and chassis, which also undergo a major modification, remain from the original vehicles. The rest is new, including ETCS signaling system installation. The 1000 kW internal combustion engine allows a maximum speed of 100 km/h.

Modernization of class 742 locomotives into an almost new traction vehicle is one of CZ LOKO’s most successful products. In 2018, CZ LOKO concluded a contract to modernize 50 class 742 locomotives for the freight carrier CD Cargo. Earlier this year, CD Cargo ordered 25 more machines, CZ LOKO signed a similar contract with Czech Railways. CER and Rail Cargo Carrier also own modernized class 742 locomotives.
