Czech Republic pushes Germany to reconsider Nuremberg–Cheb line electrification

The electrified line to Marktredwitz is to serve as a diversionary route.
The German ministry of transport will reassess whether it will actually abandon plans to electrify the line from Nuremberg to Cheb. It has recently decided to electrify the line from Nuremberg via Schwandorf to Furth im Wald as a connection to the Czech border. The ministry decided to discontinue preparations for electrification of the line to Cheb after a repeated economic evaluation proved dissatisfactory.
As a result, the possibility of assigning the Cheb–Markredwitz section to the Hof–Regensburg electrification project is to be reexamined. According to the spokesman of the Czech ministry of transport, František Jemelka, the Czech side has asked Germany to consider the electrification of the Cheb st. hr. – Marktredwitz section as a diversion route for freight traffic. This is a demand of the freight carriers.
In the meantime, preparations for electrification of the line via Furth im Wald are continuing.
