The pendolino unit damaged in the Bohumin collision with a shunting locomotive on Monday should be returned to the tracks today and towed to the Bohumin depot, Czech Railways claim. At the depot, technicians will examine the extent of the damage and the possibilities of repair.
Firefighters started rerailing the unit on Monday, while an investigation is also underway at the site. The accident happened shortly after 5 a.m. on Monday; its causes are under investigation. According to the Rail Safety Inspection, the pendolino passed a stop signal and entered into the CD Cargo locomotive’s shunting route.
The class 742 locomotive was towed away on Monday. The pendolino driver died in the accident and four CD Cargo employees were injured on the locomotive. Damage estimated at CZK 40 million is yet to be specified.
