Seven carriers expressed interest in participating in the tender, three companies submitted their bids.

The Czech carrier Leo Express will operate on the busy line Bratislava – Dunajska Streda – Komarno from December 2023 at the latest, Slovak transport minister Andrej Dolezal announced today based on the results of carrier negotiations. Leo Express should operate from December 10, 2023 to December 9, 2032; according to minister Dolezal, it may be a year earlier.

Seven carriers have expressed interest in participating in the tender, and ZSSK and Yosaria Trains, a Slovak state and a Slovak private carrier, have submitted their bids besides Leo Express.

Slovakia proceeded by means of a competitive dialogue with a direct award. The classic tender procedure failed last spring because only ZSSK applied and its offer exceeded the ministry’s expectations significantly.

Until December 2020, the line from Bratislava to Komárno was operated by RegioJet, which was also awarded the contract directly. When the contract expired, the authorities decided to provisionally award the operation to ZSSK; the carrier operates the trains in cooperation with ÖBB.
