Liberec – Jablonec nad Nisou tram line repair begins. No more 1000 mm gauge

Trams to be back in Jablonec in April 2023.
The Transport Company of Liberec and Jablonec nad Nisou (DPMLJ) can officially start extensive repairs and modernization of the last sections of the tram line between the two cities. Starting April 2023, trams will operate only on the standard gauge of 1 435 mm (currently last parts 1000 mm)
This week, the transport company concluded four contracts for the repairs of individual sections with a total value of CZK 612 million (EUR 25 million). Four different companies, Chladek a Tintera, Pardubice, Metrostav DIZ, Swietelsky Rail and Swietelsky stavebni, will work on the construction. Preparatory work has been underway for several weeks on the line where trams have not been running since last year; construction can get underway only now.
The line reconstruction will be completed and tram line position partially adjusted. Some passing loops will be relocated, taking into account the current technical standards, traffic flow and safety. The modernisation of the entire line should be completed in April 2023.
