LOT Polish Airlines returns to Košice with President of Estonia among first passengers

With Volvo preparing to build an electric car plant near Košice, the flight schedule is also aimed at Swedish investors.

With the start of the summer flight schedule, LOT returns to Košice Airport after a winter break. The first flight landed in Košice shortly after midnight on March 27. The Polish national carrier will fly between its hub in Warsaw and eastern Slovakia six times a week. The route will be served by an Embraer E170/E175 with 76 or 82 seats respectively.

Line convenient for Swedish Volvo

The Warsaw connection allows transfers to many European capitals and long-haul destinations in North America and Asia. With Volvo preparing to build an electric car plant near Košice, the flight schedule is also aimed at Swedish investors, offering easy transfers for passengers to and from Gothenburg in Warsaw. Construction of the gigafactory is scheduled to begin this year.

The summer flight schedule in Košice will provide other regular connections. Austrian Airlines passengers to Vienna will be able to continue their journey with a single booking. Ryanair will offer flights to London Stansted as well as to Prague, Liverpool, and Dublin. Wizz Air will fly to London Luton Airport. Eurowings has not yet announced when it will return flights to Düsseldorf.

President of Estonia arrives on a scheduled flight

Estonian President Alar Karis has already used the renewed line between Warsaw and Košice, Košice Airport spokeswoman Lucia Kočišová confirmed to CEETransport.com. Karis arrived in eastern Slovakia on an LO509 flight on March 28. During his two-day official visit to the country, he discussed the current security situation, the energy crisis, as well as disinformation, hybrid threats, and digitalization with Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová.
