Pendolino and locomotive collision in Bohumin leaves one dead, several injured

Traffic at the station was interrupted for half an hour.

An accident occurred at Bohumin station at 5:04 a.m. today. The SC 516 Pendolino train (680.006) collided with a shunting CD Cargo class 742 locomotive. Operation in the station was partially restored 30 minutes later. Traffic to Poland via Bohumin was interrupted with trains now running via Vrbice.

A Czech Railways employee died in the accident. Four CD Cargo employees on the locomotive and a member of the pendolino train staff were injured.

According to the Rail Safety Inspection, the pendolino passed a stop signal and entered into the CD Cargo locomotive’s shunting route, causing four of its axles to derail. The damage will run into tens of millions CZK. The Rail Safety Inspection has launched an investigation into the incident.
