Polregio signs contracts for up to 200 new trains

The company plans to purchase the new trains mainly through European subsidies and loans.
Poland’s largest passenger operator, Polregio, today signed framework contracts with four rolling stock manufacturers for the delivery of up to 200 new electric units for regional transport. In terms of volume, this is the largest purchase of new rolling stock in the history of the Polish market. Polregio will select the suppliers in an electronic auction.
During today’s signing ceremony, the company announced that it expects to finance the purchase mainly through European subsidies and loans. The value of the new trains is EUR 1.5 billion. The contracts have been awarded to Polish manufacturers PESA Bydgoszcz, Newag, Stadler Polska, and H. Cegielski – Fabryka Pojazdów Szynowych.
The new units will be procured in two versions: a maximum of 60 two-car units with a seating capacity of 130 and up to 160 three-car units for a minimum of 210 passengers. The vehicles will reach speeds of up to 160 km/h and will be equipped with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and a passenger information system. The first new units under this contract are expected to arrive in 2025.
Polregio provides regional transport services in most of Poland’s voivodships, operating about 1,900 services a day. It is owned by the state together with the individual voivodships.
