The contract obliges the carrier to ensure the operation of these fast trains with low-floor cars no later than December 2024

RegioJet has officially announced today how it plans to meet the mandatory low-floor requirement for trains on the R23 fast train line between Kolin and Usti nad Labem. The carrier is buying fourteen air-conditioned double-decker cars class 751.1-4 DBpz(a) cars built in 1995–97 from Deutsche Bahn. The contract is about to be signed.

The R23 line fast trains, which run on the Kolin–Melnik–Litomerice–Usti nad Labem route, are ordered by the Ministry of Transport. According to RegioJet, the contract obliges the carrier to ensure the operation of these fast trains with low-floor cars no later than December 2024. In these fast trains, RegioJet expects to include double-decker cars only.

Given the turnaround needs however, it is clear that the company is acquiring more double-decker cars than it will need to operate the R23 line. RegioJet has not yet stated what other services the cars will appear on. The R23 line fast trains are regularly headed by class 162 Skoda locomotives. Regiojet started its business on Czech railroads with these and does not intend to give them up even with transition to exclusive ETCS operation.
