Leasing aircraft is necessary as the demand for flying is high in the summer.

Two covid seasons were enough to meet the demand for flying with the Smartwings aircraft alone. This summer, the airline is returning to working with other carriers. It will lease a total of five aircraft from three different companies, including crews.

A similar model has been used by Smartwings repeatedly in the past, while the Czech carrier often sends its aircraft and crews abroad on ACMI leases during the winter.

Smartwings will borrow two Boeing 737-800s from the American company iAero (formerly Swift Air), which it will deploy on flights from Brno. For the first time, aircraft from Ukrainian low-cost carrier SkyUp will be on Smartwings flights; two Boeing 737-800s will fly from Bratislava. An Airbus A320 from Star East Airlines will also appear in Prague. The Romanian company will lease a 29-year-old aircraft of YR-SEC registration to Smartwings.
