Repairs and ETCS installation were supposed to start next year.

The rail infrastructure manager Sprava zeleznic postponed its plans for safer operation on the only Czech rack railway. Due to lack of money, it canceled a tender in which it was looking for design consultants with the intention to install the ETCS Regional signaling system for the Tanvald – Harrachov line.

The tender was announced by Sprava zeleznic last October. Two bids, from Sagasta and Signal Projekt, were received with an estimated price of CZK 10 million. The ETCS installation was to be carried out together with a major repair of the line at a cost of CZK 550 million next year. It is already clear that it will not take place in 2023.

“Complex repair work is planned on the Tanvald – Korenov line. The construction is unique in its scope, especially with regard to the repair of a cultural technical heritage. At present, comments on the project documentation are being settled and a building permit will be applied for. In case of positive development of financial resources, we expect to start the project in 2024/2025,” said Sprava zeleznic spokesperson Nela Friebova.
