Train derailed in Lower Austria: One dead and dozens injured in tragic accident

A passenger train derailed, several cars overturned. Reasons unknown.
A serious railway accident occurred in Lower Austria. For reasons yet unknown, two coupled Raaberbahn Siemens Desiro ML units derailed and some of the cars turned on their sides. According to initial reports, at least one passenger has died in the accident and dozens were injured.
The accident occurred on Monday evening near the municipality of Münchendorf (district Mödling) on Monday evening. Raaberbahn (GySev) is a Hungarian-owned carrier with Austria and Strabag holding minority stakes. The company is also the railway operator, providing cross-border services between Austria and Hungary. One of the units was brand new, the carrier took it over last week.

According to Austrian media, several first responder helicopters arrived at the location where around 30 people were injured, many of them seriously. The line is currently closed.
